アニミズム（animism）とは、人間以外の生物を含む、木や石など、すべての物のなかに魂が宿っているという思想や信仰のこと。ラテン語で霊魂を意味する「アニマ（anima）」からつくられた用語で、世界各地のさまざまな民族の宗教や風習に見られる（※１）。
このアニミズムは、実際にアニミズムを信仰する人々が使用する用語ではなく、人類学研究において構築された概念である。
