Japannese play ”Otofu Coffee”

TKO Entertainment, Inc. is thrilled to announce Dora Theatrical Company’s new play “Otofu Coffee.” If you were to compare them to Broadway, Dora would be Off Off Broadway experimental, however they have stood the test of time. Dora Theatrical Company was founded in 1972 “to democratically express thoughts on peace, love and humanity” while “critically reflecting modern society and providing an expression for higher cultural exploration to young audiences.”

The Company’s first production was Arthur Miller’s “Memories of Two Mondays.” Their productions of “Our Town,” “A Poem of Life, Fox and Grapes,” “You Made It, Mr. Crichton,” “Departure Tomorrow,” and “Burning Snow” established their reputation over the years. Dora has also performed in countries such as Poland and the USA. Notably, their production “Senpo Sugihara,” about a Japanese official who saved 6000 Jewish people at the start of World War II, got an excellent review from the New York Times in 1998.

The Coronavirus crisis has forced cancellation of all Broadway shows and Dora is no different. To reach audiences now they’ve started live streaming their play “Otofu Coffee.” The story is set in a special home for the elderly in a remote area. At this home, which has an unusual origin and way of being, an old woman is about to reach her final moment one night. During what was supposed to be a quiet time of care, a major typhoon comes and floods the only bridge, leaving the home isolated and unsupported.

“Otofu Coffee” addresses issues of dementia, long-term care, gender identity disorder, and power harassment and is full of timely stories that are closely related to our lives. It's like a life bible full of tears, laughter, and lessons that will surely help you. The show is very easy to understand and Dora would like young children to see it. Performed with English subtitles free of charge.
