I was watching MasterClass the other day
and was inspired by a phrase that Tan France said.
You may not recognize him by his name,
but you may know Tan France
as the co-host in the program, 'Queer Eye'.
He is the fashion stylist.
I like the approach he takes
when finding the right fashion for his clients.
He is respectful of who they are
and supports them to be their wonderful self through fashion.
So it was only natural for him to say, 'Be the Reason to be Happy'.
These words somehow struck me.
Perhaps it was because I heard these words when I was at my low mode.
A phase that I unknowingly entered,
in which I'm wondering what am I doing here?
A point in time taking stock of my life and thinking,
what have I achieved?
Or perhaps realistically it was so true that
despite the fact that I have a closetful of clothes and more,
none of them made me feel confident,
none of them really made me feel elated.
I was disregarding how my clothes represented me
and was wearing whatever was convenient to wash
during the hot and sweaty summer season.
Looking good was not a priority.
Looking decent was good enough.
This phase I am in is called aging, and yes, I miss my youth.
But watching his class did remind me that
being happy could simply start from wearing clothes
that excite me for being who I am
and being my own kind of wonderful once again.
Don't we all want to be the reason to be happy
and make others feel happy, too?
