A Maltese member of ACPC,whose members exchange covers each other for philately,sent me a marvellous one. So, I'd like to post it. Thank you, Salvino :-)
A Portuguese member of ACPC,whose members exchange covers each other for philately,sent me a marvellous one. So, I'd like to post it. Thank you, Jose :-)
You can find on this cover six stamps which consist of four different themes;
0.32 euros by one(right above):Fruit of Madeira(issued in 2009) 0.32 euros by one (center above):History of Liberty(issued in 2010) 0.01 euro by one(left):Bird 0.05 euros by three:Masks of Portugal"Festival of Boys"(issued in 2006)
Mask stamps are the most interesting ones.Mask which stamps depict is one of Festa dos Rapazes(Festival of boys,or Festival of St.Stephan) in Braganca, north east of Portugal.From the feast of St.Stephan(26th December) to the Epiphany(6th January),non-married boys over 16 dressed in this mask, make a dance to bagpipe accompaniment,go round the street in the villages and scare people,especially women and children.
For the name of this festival,St. Stephan, this cover may be put in religious theme.
Most postal authorities all over the world send to customers letters without using stamps because of efficiency of mailing. However,it discourage most philatelists like me. Therefore, Vatican postal authority has used this cover which appear to use stamps. I guess it.
This year 2011 is 200th anniversary of birth of Franz Liszt,Hungarian composer and pianist. I will show you a FDC of Franz Liszt from Austria,centre of classic music, to celebrate this prominent figure below. Thank you Gunther :-)
In fact, Liszt has a very close relationship with Catholic. In 1860s, he moved to Rome and even received the four minor orders of porter, lector, exorcist, and acolyte. In this sense, this FDC is not only on the theme of music,but also on the theme of Catholic church.
