ご紹介するのはAlexander & Baldwin Building。
こちらもStangenwald buildingをデザインした
建築家Charles W. Dickey氏と
同じく建築家のHart Wood氏によってデザインされた。

822 Bishop Stにあるこの建物は、ハワイの五大企業のひとつ
A&Bの創業者達のためにデザインされた。
Alexander & Baldwinは、matsonの
親会社グループでもあるが、以下も全てA&Bが親会社だ。

・Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company (sugar growing division)
・Matson Navigation Co., Inc. (shipping company)
Matson Integrated Logistics
Matson Terminals, Inc.
・A & B Properties, Inc. (real estate and development company)
・Maui Brand Sugars (sugar brand)
・Kauai Coffee Company, Inc. (coffee brand and plantation)
・Kauai Commercial Company, Inc. (freight trucking)
マウイにはAlexander & Baldwin Suger Museumなどもある。
この４階建てのビルディングは、当時、もっともモダンな建物であった。
ディッキー・スタイルと言われる最上階のバルコニーを覆う
瓦ぶきの屋根が特徴的だ。
ホノルルの建物の中でも、中国、ハワイ、日本、イタリア
チベット、ムーア様式を最もみごとに調和したものと言われ
建物の至る所で、中国でグッド・ラックとされている柄を
目にする事が出来る。
色々な人種や文化がミックスされたハワイらしい
建物とも言える存在のような気がする。
