"People have this perception of this being an issue that affects our kids but not us, or affects polar bears in the Arctic but not us, and what this report really brings home is the fact that climate change is affecting us right here, today,” said Katharine Hayhoe, a lead author of National Climate Assessment report.

・「人々はこの問題について、自分たちではなく子どもたちが影響を受ける問題であるとか、自分たちでなく北極のシロクマが影響を受ける問題であると考えがちであるが、本報告書が痛感させる（brings home）のは、気候変動は現在の我々に影響を及ぼしつつあるという事実である」とは、全米気候評価報告書の筆頭著者であるKatharine Hoyhoeのコメントである。
日本でも「ゲリラ豪雨」のような異常気象のニュースを頻繁に見かけますが、同じ問題はアメリカでは東海岸で顕著にみられるようになったようです。英語だと"very heavy precipitation"（異常な集中豪雨）ですね。
特に北東部では、50年間で最も強い集中豪雨の最大降雨量が71％も増加したのだとか。
反対に、西海岸では以前のブログでもお伝えした通り、水不足・干ばつが増加していて、そのことも取り上げられています。

Hayhoe noted that the impacts of climate change depend on location. In the Northeast, for example, the frequency of heavy precipitation events has increased by 71 percent. On the opposite side of the country, drought is becoming a serious concern. "There is no one-size-fits all here on why we need to be worried about climate change," she said.

気候変動のことを真剣に考えないといけない理由は土地によって異なり、万能サイズ（どこにでもあてはまる）理由はない、ということですね。
で、"The Time is Now" 行動するのは「今でしょ」ということで、自然エネルギーの利用促進などの取組みが既に起きてしまった気候変動の影響を和らげることにつながる云々という記述があり、ニュースはコロラド大学の科学技術政策研究所の研究員であるLisa Dillingの以下の言葉で締めくくられています。

"move past"は「（何らかの問題や課題）をやり過ごす」とか「（悪いこと）を断ち切る」という意味。
・「さまざまな気候変動の影響を和らげるために取りうる行動は数多くある」例えば、太陽光のような無炭素エネルギーの利用に対する投資などが化石燃料に対する依存を断ち切るのに役立つと彼女は指摘する。
