How To Talk To A Friend Of A Friend
A great way to meet new people is through your
current friends. When you're introduced to a
friend of a friend what should you say? Today
let's learn some key phrases you can use in
this situation to start a conversation.
1. " So, Jenny ( friend's name) tells me
you're a runner ( or golfer or violinist
etc. )"
2. " Oh, so I heard you're from ( name of
city , country etc. ) "
3. " Aren't you working as an engineer?
( or name of job ) "
4." Oh you're an accountant ( job name)
right? "
By using these phrases you show interest in
the other person. The most important thing
is to get the other person to talk. After
they start telling you about their job/
hobbies etc. ask a few follow-up questions.
Then you have made a new friend!

Fun Expressions Using " Speak"
Today let's learn a few common American
expressions using the work " Speak" Using
these phrases and idioms will help you sound
more natural when speaking English.
1. Speak of the devil - This expression is
used when there is a specific coincidence that
happens. This coincidence is when you are
talking about a certain person and then
surprisingly that person calls you on the phone,
or texts you or even shows up at your door.
Here is an example:
" Hey did you hear that John got a promotion? "
" No I didn't , tell me about it! " Then John
suddenly calls you on the phone and you say
" Speak of the devil , John is calling me on the
phone now! "
2. Speaking of -This is a great transitional
expression when you want to change the subject to
something related to the topic but a bit different.
You can only use this when there is a common
theme or word in the conversation. Here is an
example:
" Have you seen the movie " St. Vincent? " No I
haven't , I heard it was pretty funny though...
speaking of movies did you hear that there will be
a new movie theater opening down the street
soon? "
3. Speak your mind- This is an expression that
means to express your true feelings about something
without hiding anything or holding back. Here's an
example " I was so mad about the painters painting
my house the wrong color I called the CEO of the
company and really spoke my mind. Now they will
paint my house over for free! "
Now you try to use these expressions in a
sentence , either speaking them out loud or writing
a few sentences down on paper.
