Purpose: Correct an anterior and inferior positional fault of the distal fibula
One of MAI factors
Arthrokinematic impairments after lateral ankle sprain
The lateral malleolus is displaced anteriorly and inferiorly
↓↓↓
The ATFL may be slack in its resting position
When the Rearfoot begins to supinates, the talus can go through a greater ROM before the ATFL becomes taut
↓↓
Positional fault of the distal fibula
Technique
- Locate thenar eminence of a palm hand on anterior and inferior distal fibula
- Stabilize the distal leg
- Apply posterior or superior force to distal fibula
- Place foot neutral PF and DF
- Apply tape 2.5 cm anteriorly to the distal fibula
- Apply superior and posterior force
- Anchoring tape anterior aspect of tibia
- Repeat 5-6 for 2nd strip with greater force
