Hello. Day 2 after the earthquake and things continue to return to normal Tokyo. We still are getting aftershocks—some pretty big—but no new damage or anything else terrible.

Yesterday, the supermarket and convenience stores shelves were still pretty barren. They are not getting their normal supply so the they are not able to restock the shelves like they normally do. Things like instant noodles are sold out. Bottled water supply is low, but you can still get it. We are not having any problems for food and water.

There didn’t seem to be as many people out and about yesterday as their normally would be on a Saturday in Futagotamagawa. Takashimaya was busy, but not the usual weekend busy. The trains are back running, but only at 50 to 70% of the normal number of trains.

Miwa and I have been spending the weekend as we normally do. Not much different than usual. All the channels on TV are only running coverage of the earthquake and tsunami stuff so there is nothing else to watch. All the channels have actually been running without any commercials either. It’s actually kind of hard to know what is going on in Japan or anywhere else in the world if it weren’t for the internet. There is no other non-earthquake related information at all on TV. We’ll see what happens tomorrow when it returns to a working day. The nuclear power plant that they are having all the problems at is one of the places that provides power to Tokyo so we’ll see if there will be power shortages or restrictions in the future.

The morning after and we are still doing ok. Haven’t ventured outside much yet, but things seems pretty normal here. In terms of Tokyo, the biggest problem was trying to get home last night. Thousands of people couldn’t make it home with the trains stopped. Thankfully, we both did without much incident. So far, all known friends and relatives seem to be ok.

We are now safe at home. A few things fell over, but not that bad. Miwa had to walk home from work (3.5 hours). All the public transportation has stopped.

I am OK (so far). Miwa is OK too. There are a lot of aftershocks, though.
