LOVE FOR FIGURE SKATING AND MUSIC

フィギュアスケート、映画、好きなものについてまったり書いています。

Elena Ilinykh and Nikita Katsalapov placed 2nd in SD at the Rostelecom Cup 2012.

I've never thought Morozov is a monster of choreography.
But it was interesting program!
The music arrangement was unique rather than beautiful though.

Morozov doesn't focus on skating skill so much, does he?
Or scoring skating skill is just adjustable?
It doesn't have to be taken seriously in competitionsはてなマーク

SD-Andijan Polka(2012-2013 season)

With just 16 months until their own winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia is making sure the athletes are getting well prepared. And so in ice dancing, they secure the services of legendary coach, Nikolai Morozov, to train young hopeful Elena Ilinykh and Nikita Katsalapov.

"Actually for me, it's interesting sound to make some results for dancers in Sochi because I've done everything else. I made many more champions and Olympic champions. I don't really interest to make another medals. But for athletes, yes I am."

But he has a work to cut off for him because ruling majority shifted away from Russia recently. American's Meryl Davis and Charlie White as well as Canadian's pair Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir stole the show in Vancouver in 2010. And They've shared the gold and silver at the last three worlds championships. But Elena is confident about her and her partner's chance in this season.

"...we feel we can do it. We weren't the top 5. We are skating as one group with tough skaters with Canadians, Americans and French. Now we feel with this program, we can move forward."

It won't be easy for the pair but coach Morozov is a monster of the choreography and has been thinking with their programs.

Now, the music that Elena and Nikita currently trained to is generic, that won't be used in the coming season. They've been dancing to a specifically made custom music that would be used for their choreography and dance. Something that trained with Nikolai Morozov hopes that it would be giving a little bit of extra competitive advantage.

"No one has heard this music before, which makes very interesting. It's a brand new composition with the musician created the music to our specific movement. I'm still coming to terms with it. But both Elena and I really like it."

Being only one couple to have music specifically composed for them is a credit to the duo. But the big question as always is just how well they've got along well with each other.

"When we were little, we had some problems. We both were singles. And we have a really tough character. We all want to be like a leader. After two years, we understand how we need to be one couple to help each other. Right now it's no problem. We had quarrels always on the practices."

It's always easy for one side of the couple to be happy about the status quo. But it's always take two to tango.

"During training there is always going to be disagreement but that is a part of partial working together. You shouldn't be skating and dancing with emotions. We have own character and want to show it. But we've been working together for a long time and very comfortable with one another."

With the couple apparently happy with each other as well as being exciting about performing to their new music, it's clear they intend to take the ice dancing world by storm. And with training their athletic ?, if they don't , they won't want to disappoint.
