An anecdote about "Pekorosu no haha ni ai ni iku"
In January of last year, a comic book "Pekorosu no haha ni ai ni iku" was self-published in Nagasaki Prefecture. The author was ready to sell the book by himself. Other than that, it was launched in a few bookstores located in the shopping arcade within Nagasaki city. The author wished to sell around 300 copies. Simply, things were started.
I was struck by the book. After posting about it in my facebook, I started to sell it on internet. Then one man contacted me saying we should make this movie. He was also inspired by the book that was just privately-printed in the small area of Nagasaki city. He created a film proposal by several papers and visited some big movie production companies. However, for the three major companies such as T and S, there were no reasons to consider this kind of idea. This book was not written by a famous novelist awarded the Honya Taisho. It was the book made by one local manga artist in his 60's in Nagasaki Prefecture. Besides, the scale of the movie would require some billion yen for the budget. I knew it was almost impossible to request for decision and receive approval for this project in the company. But we thought "the book, which describes the life and thoughts of a son whose mother is with dementia, would create a big movement. This film should be made now. If no one does, we can do it. If it needs a big budget, we make money."
Eventually, we made our production to make this film.
"Pekorosu no haha ni ai ni iku" will be shown in this fall
