A Dazzling Accessory for the Bride!
Tiara Designer Taro Kamitani
Taro Kamitani, who was working as an art director at an ad agency, designed a tiara for his bride. That overwhelming experience led him to switch careers and devote his life to the art of the diadem. He fuses his innate aesthetic sensibility with the personal details he gleans from his clients when designing his tiaras. Working with tiara craftsmen who are rare in Japan, he creates completely original, detailed works.
While tiaras were symbols of wealth and power for aristocratic Europeans, they epitomize the promise of marital bliss in Japan. In this country where coronations and balls are not so frequent, the tiara became associated with weddings. The self-taught Kamitani thinks outside the box. He incorporates the motifs of a bride's name or her favorite word into the tiara. The drama of life is captured in the design, and the tiara remains a part of the couple's life even after matrimony. We focus on Kamitani at work and his uniquely Japanese style of tiara creation.
