先程、私は
『アルマーニさんは50年間、衣装を創り続けてきた』
と書きました。
でもアルマーニさんは今年で90歳。
つまり、40歳の時にデザイナーに転身されたのです。

では、それまでは？
ミラノ大学医学部在籍中に
アルマーニさんは兵役に召集されました。
戦時中の医療を経験した時に
いろいろな思いを痛感なさったのだと思いますが、
そのまま大学は中退なさいました。
戦争の影響を受けて人生が変わった人のひとりだと思います。
私の祖父は、故郷の医者になりたかったけれど
軍医として召集され生き方が変わったので、
なんとなく勝手に、祖父とイメージが重なります。

その後、
ミラノの百貨店「ラ・リナシェンテ」のバイヤーを務め、
セルッティ社のメンズウェア「ヒットマン」の
デザイナーと製品開発係を兼任し、
41歳の時、
セルジオ・ガレオッティさんと共に会社を設立して
やっと自社商品を発表します。
私が今29歳なので
アルマーニさんがデザイナーになられた年齢まで
あと12年もあるのです。

私の12年前は？と思い出すと、17歳。
女子高生の役を演じていた頃です。
私でさえ12年間いろいろなことがあったのだから、
ましてやアルマーニさんは
想像もつかない時間を歩んでこられたと思います。

Mr. Armani has been creating outfits for 50 years, but he’s 90 now, which means he started at 40. What did he do before that? He was called for military service while studying medicine and experienced wartime medicine, which changed his life. This resembled my grandfather's life, who wanted to become a doctor in his hometown, but his life changed dramatically when he was drafted as a military doctor. Thus, I unconsciously associated my grandfather's life with Mr. Armani's life.
After that, he worked at “La Rinascente” a department store in Milan, then at Cerruti designing and developing products. At 41, he finally launched his own products with Sergio Galeotti.
I’m 29 now, so I still have 12 years to reach the age Mr. Armani was when he started designing. Thinking back 12 years, I was 17 and playing high school roles. If so much has happened in my last 12 years, imagine what Mr. Armani has experienced!
