What do you do when your children, especially daughters, play mah-jong? Many high school boys seem to play mah-jong, but some of them keep it secret from their parents or teachers because some parents may have a negative image with mah-jong.
When I hear her mah-jong story from daughter, I hesitated at first but said, "OK, daughter, so why don't you do it together with us? "
At that time I had something to think about, and soon recognized how effective my idea was........

These days, since after she entered the age of adolescence, her attitude to father has always been so arrogant and there was little conversation between them. I tried to improve the situation but in vain.

To tell the truth, I understand her feeling and situation. That often happens to a girl around her age. To young people, the culture gap between themselves and their parents looks so deep and serious that it seems almost impossible to conquer: hobby, generation, society each belongs to, values, fashion, topic, the way of thinking, and so on......the wall is too high.
I understand such adolescent situation, but I do not like it. I do not like such a cold war atmosphere within the house. That's why when she talked about mah-jong, I thought "Thank you daughter! To approach daddy!"

Now I am surprised to see her sudden change in mind only by playing mah-jong with father, like "Oh! she is talking!" or "Oh! She is laughing!", and so on. How simple and easy this method is, without any difficult effort but just with fun! You know, scolding, logical persuasion could see no particular results. But Mah-jong promptly changed the situation with a lot of fun! That may be called like a "mah-jong magic"!

Now I totally understand why Japanese businessmen prefer mah-jong in their business talk or with their colleagues or boss. It is a very effective tool to cross a bridge over two differences.
