The death toll from the Itaewon tragedy not stands at 154, with dozens of people injured.
People are also paying tribute in Itaewon near the site, where officials are still investigating.
Our reporter Lee Rae-hyun... is in Itaewon right now.
Rae-hyun, tell us more about what's going on there.
Devin,... as you can probably imagine, Itaewon is very quiet.
The people who are here have come to pay their respects.
Makeshift memorials are set up outside of Itaewon Station, very close to where the incident happened,... with onlookers leaving flowers and notes.
"It's so very sad to see another incident like this with so many casualties after the Sewol ferry disaster. I think this sadness will last for a very long time."
"I remember when I was here last night, I mean, Saturday night. I remember getting any warnings, news updates were still weren't very informative ... There were no jihacheol open, no cabs, it was incredibly mishandled."
Around 40 officials from Seoul Metropolitan Police and National Forensic Service arrived at 2 PM this afternoon to begin a forensic examination and try to determine the main cause.
Right. You mentioned it's very quiet. There are so many small shops, bars and restaurants in the area.
President Yoon has declared a period of mourning. So what are the owners of these businesses doing?
They must still be in a state of shock.
Right Devin, as you might be able to see, most are closed.
They will stay that way until Saturday... after the end of the national mourning period.
According to Itaewon Special Tourist Zone Organization... around a hundred businesses in Itaewon are participating in the move.
Some shop owners are even volunteering to provide snacks and coffee for the firefighters and police officials who are here on site.
And one shop owner who I met says she ordered boxes of flowers to give out to people
"There are no flower shops around here. That's why we ordered 100 of them to give out to people who are here to mourn. I hope other merchants help out as well."
Just like other commercial districts,... Itaewon, too, suffered greatly during COVID-19,... particularly, as a result of being one of the sites of an early outbreak that brought the area to its knees.
While business owners may have been looking forward to this year's Halloween, none will have foreseen what happened on Saturday.

The 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change – COP27 – will build on the outcomes of COP26 to deliver action on an array of issues critical to tackling the climate emergency – from urgently reducing greenhouse gas emissions, building resilience and adapting to the inevitable impacts of climate change, to delivering on the commitments to finance climate action in developing countries.
Faced with a growing energy crisis, record greenhouse gas concentrations, and increasing extreme weather events, COP27 seeks renewed solidarity between countries, to deliver on the landmark Paris Agreement, for people and the planet.

今年１０月は今年最多となる６７００品目が値上げされましたが、１１月も値上げの波は止まりそうにありません。
「餃子の王将」では１１月１９日から今年２度目となる値上げを実施。３５商品を１０円～５０円引き上げ、関西地区では餃子が税込みで２６４円から２７５円になります。
１０月３１日、大阪市阿倍野区にあるスーパー「フレッシュマーケットアオイ昭和町店」で話を聞きました。

「こちらの牛乳が値上がりになります。（Ｑほぼ全ての牛乳が値上がり？）はい、ほぼ全ての牛乳が５％～１０％ぐらいの値上がりになると思います。牛乳の値上がりの背景にはエサ代の高騰がある。（Ｑ豆乳は？）豆乳も大豆の価格が高騰していますので１１月で値上がりするものもございます」
大手乳業メーカーは他にもヨーグルトなどの乳製品を１１月からこぞって値上げ。さらに…。

「砂糖も値上がりします。こちらも１０％ほどの値上がりになります。続きまして丸美屋さまのふりかけが値上がりになります。毎日の食卓に欠かせないものの値上がりがありますので、大変心苦しいなと思っております」
家計を苦しめる物価高。岸田文雄総理は、高騰する電気やガス、ガソリン代に対応するために、国の補正予算の一般会計で２９兆１０００億円を投じる「総合経済対策」を発表。標準的な家庭で２０２３年１月～９月までに１世帯あたり総額４万５０００円程度の負担軽減策を打ち出し、「上昇分を直接的に目に見える形で抑制する」と強調しました。
これについて街の人は次のように話しました。

「私たちにどんな利益があるのかがよくわからないので、もう少ししっかりわかるように説明をしてくれたらありがたいなと思います」
「自分たちが恩恵を受けられるのかなっていうのがあるので。（Ｑちゃんと実感できるのかなと？）そうですね」
「ないよりはあったほうがいいけれども、ちょっとごまかされている感じはあるかな」
「一時的な支給じゃなくて、もっと根本的な物価上昇・円安の対策・消費税を下げるとか、具体的な思い切った政策があると良いなと思います」

中国共産党大会で極めて異例の出来事として世界を驚かせたのが、胡錦濤前国家主席が途中で退席する場面です。この退席の直前に壇上で起きたある場面を捉えていた映像が、さらなる波紋を広げています。

22日、各国のメディアが、中国共産党大会の会場へ案内されるのを待っていました。

「午前11時13分です。これから会場の中に入ります」
この日、メディアが案内されたのは、中国共産党幹部の選出が行われた直後でした。いち早く撮影を始めたメディアが捉えていたのが、中央に座る習近平国家主席の隣で、胡錦濤前国家主席と、当時、政権序列3位の栗戦書氏がなにやら言葉を交わしている映像です。
栗氏は胡氏の手元にあった白い文書に赤いカバーのようなものをかぶせ、なだめるように言葉をかけています。それでも胡氏が文書を見ようとしたのか、今度は栗氏が胡氏の文書を自分の手元に引き寄せ、渡さないようにしっかりと手で押さえました。
一方、胡氏と関係が深い李克強首相は、すぐ隣で起きている異変に一切反応せず、前をじっと見つめています。この時、事前の予想を覆す最高指導部からの引退が決まっていました。
対照的に、胡氏らのやりとりをじっと見つめる習主席。目線を後方に移すと、程なく男性スタッフがやってきました。習主席は自分の手元の文書を指さしながら、何か指示をしているように見えます。
その後、胡氏は習主席の手元の文書に手を伸ばしますが、習主席が素早く押さえつけ、阻止しました。

「いま、胡錦濤氏が脇を支えられて席を立ちますね」
胡氏はスタッフに脇を抱えられ、不満げな表情を浮かべながら立たされます。
一連の騒動の発端になったとみられる文書。はっきりとは確認できませんが、幹部人事に関する資料だったのでしょうか。

9年前、同じ会場で固い握手を交わし、権力を引き継いだ習氏と胡氏。今回の出来事は、その2人の間で起きました。

「中国ではこうした政治イベントは全て根回しの上で行われる完全予定調和の世界なので、本当に異例の事態でした。この退場劇、中国SNSでは検索できなくなっていて、外に見せたいものではなかったことがわかります。ただ、当局から検閲されないツイッターなどでは、人事に怒った胡氏があの後の議案の採決で異議を申し立てるなど、何らかのアクションを起きそうとして退場させられたのでは、などの見方も出ています」
健康問題もささやかれていた胡氏の行動について、国営新華社通信は、「最近、静養中であったものの、党大会の閉幕に出席したいと強く主張していた」「体調が悪化したため退席した」と説明しています。さらに、最高指導部から外れた李克強首相と汪洋副首相を念頭に、「指導部の一部は自ら引退を申し出た」と報じました。
胡錦濤氏の流れをくむ幹部が一掃された場で起きた今回の出来事。異論を許さない習一強体制への懸念が深まっています。

【浜田隆政コメント】アメリカ奴隷の歴史は拙著『求め続けて第二部』（現在、未だに出版していないが、数年前にブログで公開）に記したように、最初はネィティブアメリカ人、次に犯罪歴や貧困者などからなる白人奴隷、最後に黒人奴隷になった経緯を記している。
なお、出自は本人が言わぬ限り、問うべきではないが私の持論である。
逆を考えても、議員などの候補者が「祖先が奴隷であった」と言っても票は減らないし、正しく歴史を把握していれば自己のPrideが傷つくこともない。だが、「祖先は奴隷主で…の如く残虐な行為を働いた」と言えば、票は激減するかもしれない。
