１２月２１日土曜日、女子オーラUP参拝ツアーを行わせていただく
江島神社様では、辺津宮に「茅の輪」が設置されています。
これは「茅」（かや）で作られた輪をくぐり、罪穢れ（けがれ）を取り除き
心身を清めるというもの。
実はこの「茅の輪」、スサノオノミコトの故事に由来しています。
昔、スサノオノミコトが旅の途中で、蘇民将来（そみんしょうらい） と
巨旦将来（こたんしょうらい）という兄弟の家をそれぞれ訪れ、
宿泊させて欲しいと願い出ました。
豊かな生活をしていた、弟の巨旦将来は断り、
兄の蘇民将来は貧しい暮らしをしていましたが、快く受け入れ手厚くもてなしたそうです。
数年後、スサノオノミコトが再び蘇民将来の家を訪れ、
「もし悪い病気が流行することがあったら、
茅で輪を作って、腰につけていれば
病気にかからないですむでしょう」 とお教えになりました。
その通りにしていた蘇民将来の一族は、何があっても守られ
厄災から逃れることができました。
ここから、「茅の輪をくぐり身を清める」という習わしができたそうです。
ちなみにもう１つ、7月の祇園祭で入手してきた
厄除けのお守り「ちまき」にも、「蘇民将来の子孫也」と書いてありますが
こちらも、この故事に由来しています。
この「ちまき」は玄関先に飾り、無病息災を願うのだそうです。
早いもので、2013年もあと２０日あまりで終わりです。

At the end of June and December,
you may see big green circles in the grounds of the shrines.
We call them “Chinowa”. Chi means Kaya,
a kind of Japanese plant.
A long long time ago,
when a God Susano ono mikoto was travelling,
he asked Somin shorai and Kotan shorai
to put him up for the night.
Kotan and Somin were brothers,
and Kotan was rich, but Somin was poor.
Kotan said no,but Somin welcomed Susanoo.
Susanoo was so glad and after a several years
he dropped in to Somin’s house and said,
“You’d better tie a little Chinowa to your hip.
It will protect you from various kinds of diseases.”
It was true. The family of Somin was protected,
and his descendants survived and became rich.
Following this story,
many shrines make circles of Chinowa
and worshipers pass through the circle to purify themselves
at the end of the 1st half and the 2nd half of the year.
If you visit Kyoto at the period of Gion Matsuri,
you can buy the “Chimaki” at Yasaka shrine.
“Chimaki” is made by Chi(Kaya),
and people put it at the front of the door
of their house to prevent diseases.
Attached to the Chimaki is a piece of paper
with, “I’m a descendant of Somin Shorai”.
The source of this amulet is the same as Chinowa.
