By the way, speaking of Sarutahiko Shrine,
its symbol is the octagon.
Not only is the "Houi-Ishi"-
Houi means direction, Ishi means Rock-
an octagon but there also many octagons.
手水舎の柱も八角形
For example, the pillars of Chozuya are octagons.
Chozuya is a building for cleaning your hands
and rinsing your mouth.
鳥居の柱も八角形
And, the pillars of the Torii gate are octagons,
佐瑠女神社の御本殿も八角形
Main building of Sarume Shrine is octagon.
屋根の上の鰹木も八角形
Katsuogi, on the roof top of the hall for worship, are octagons.
釣燈籠（つりとうろう）も八角形
The hanging lanterns are octagons.
で、「ここも八角形にくりぬかれていないかな」
と思ったのですが・・・さすがにちがいました。＾＾
I expected that there were more octagons,
but it was square. HHH
「八角形」は八方位、つまり東西南北とその間にある、
全方位からのパワーを呼び寄せることができる、
とても縁起のよい形と言われているそうです。
It is believed that the octagon has the ability to
gather the power from octas and brings good fortune.
「八」は末広がりと言われ、
縁起のよい数字とも言われています。
In Japan, we believe that eight brings good luck
because the shape of "八"(eight) is wider toward the end.

猿田彦神社、それはパワフルなはずですね！

I think, a lot of octagons are making "Bai sema"
and guarding it.
So I felt a powerful and mystic energy in the grounds
of Sarutahiko Shrine.
I'm going to visit there again.

◆アクセス◆
三重県伊勢市宇治浦田２－１－１０・・・HPへ
近鉄「宇治山田」駅前から「内宮前」行きバスか
「浦田町」行きバスで15分位。
「猿田彦神社前」バス停で降りてすぐ。
内宮前行きバスは、土日祝日の日中は
10分おき位にあって、便利です。
From "Ujiyamada Station" of Kintetsu line,
take the bus for"Naikuu-mae" or "Urata-cho".
It takes about 15 minutes.
Get off at the bus stop "Sarutahiko-jinjya-mae".
The bus for "Naikuu-mae" runs every 10 minutes
during the day time on the weekend.
