稲荷山には三つの峰があり、
それぞれにご神蹟（聖地）があります。
There are 3 peaks at Mt. Inari,
and every peak has a holy site.
こちらは一ノ峰のご神蹟。末広大神がまつられています。
This is a holy site on Ichi no mine.
This small shrine building is dedicated to Suehiro Ookami(God).
稲荷山を巡ってお詣りすることは「お山する」といわれ、
To visit Mt. Inari is called "oyama suru",
oyama means "mountain", and suru means "do".
特に、平安時代の人々は
2月の初午の日に稲荷山に登ると
「福がいただける」と信じていて、
この日山は大賑わいだったそうです。
Especialy, in the Heian period, many people believed
that visiting Mt. Inari on the First Horse Day of Feb
brought happiness, so it was so crowded with worshippers.
清少納言は、日記に
「初午の日に稲荷山に上ったが
あまりに苦しくて汗をかきながら休憩していたら、
40歳くらいの女性が
今日は７周するつもりで、もう３周したと
話していてうらやましかった」と書いているとのこと。
Seisyou nagon,
a famous waka poet in the Heian period wrote that
"I visited Mt.Inari on the First Horse Day of Feb.
It was so hard for me that I perspired, and took a rest.
At that time I bumped into a women.
She looked 40 years old and said
"Today I'm going to visit the 3 peaks 7 times.
I already visited them 3 times."
I envied her.
それでは、２月初午の日の稲荷山の様子をご紹介します。
Now let me tell you about Mt. Inari
on theFirst Horse day.
私はいつも、まずはこちらで
「稲荷山へ入らせていただきますが、
無事に戻ってくることができますように」とお祈りします。
When I visit Mt.Inari, I always stop at
"Okunomiya", and pray for safety.
千本鳥居をくぐって
I went through under the red gates.
They are well known as " Senbon(a thousand) Torii(gate)"
こちらからお山へ入ります。
This is the entrance of Mt.Inari.

It takes 1 minute on foot from "Fushimi"station of JR
or 3 or 4 minuteson foot from "Fushimi Inari"station of
Keihan honsen.
