The team of Virginia university announced the theory that people put too much importance on adding and ignore subtraction in the English scientific journal Nature.
For example, there is a case that one pillar supports a plate. When people are asked to make the plate stable, they put three more pillars at the corner. However, when you want to make it stable, you can take a pillar away. Then the plate is placed on the ground and stays there in the most stable way.
As other cases, when asked to improve an essay, most people try to make the essay longer. When asked to review a recipe, they add more ingredients. Sometimes you get negative outcomes by adding.
When we get sick, we immediately rely on medicine. I think that also comes from the idea of adding. We have to notice that adding is not the only way to solve the problem. Maybe there are a lot of waste and useless things around us.
