Halloween is less than a week away!  Are you going to wear a costume, go to a party, eat candy, or make a jack-o-lantern?  I really enjoy Halloween because there are so many different activities that you can do to celebrate the holiday.  Honestly, my favorite activity is watching Halloween movies, so today, I would like to share my family-friendly suggestion for a great movie to watch on October 31st.

Hocus-Pocus is a live-action Disney film which was released in 1993, and it stars two famous American actresses, Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker.  The story is about three witches from 1693 who magically come back to life and cause trouble 300 years later in 1993.  It is the responsibility of teenage boy Max Dennison to stop them, so together with his younger sister, his girlfriend, and a talking black cat, he tries to do anything he can to drive the witches away.  The movie takes place in Salem, Massachusetts, which is actually quite famous for some scary events in real life.  At the end of the 1600’s, the people of Salem believed that there were real witches who lived just outside of the city, and this led to a well-known event in American history known as the Salem Witch Trials.  Let’s talk more about Halloween history and traditions when you come and study at BRIDGE!

Here's how you can watch Hocus Pocus this October.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is planning a $500 billion model city in the desert of northwest Saudi Arabia named NEOM meaning new future. ENOM will be powered by clean energy such as solar power, purified water which can be used repeatedly, flying taxis, robot maids and so on.

Saudi Arabia cannot rely on oil anymore because the oil price has dropped over years and the world is shifting to renewable clean energy. I feel how serious Salman is about creating the new city, otherwise Saudi Arabia has no future.

When I heard about this project years ago, I imagined an artificial city with a jungle of high-rise buildings. However, unlike my image, NEOM seems to be a community full of nature, while at the same time all essential daily services such as schools, parks are within five-minute walk,

Perfect automated transportation system and AI technology will enable a comfortable life.

I am interested in how NEOM will play out.

Will NEOM be successful as an economic and scientific capital in the world?

Or just a fantasy of the crown prince? The first phase of this project is going to be finished by 2030.

Religion and Japanese

It is often said that Japanese do not believe in a specific religion.

We visit a shrine on New Year’s Day, have a wedding in church and have a funeral in Buddhist style.

Generally, religion is considered as being associated with the world of after death. Furthermore, religious practice is carried out by belonging to religious groups or sects.

Few Japanese ask for that.

On the other hand, we like spiritual activities such as visiting power spot areas and meditation. I think this is a kind of religion for Japanese which is personalized with no strict rules.

Religion is essentially the combination of faith and practice.

But modern people do not think religion can solve the problems we have.

I think religion is just a ritual and sometimes that can heal or refresh us.

Maybe it is similar to sports, arts and music.

Our image of religion would be quite different from that of religious people.
