Yes I will totally agree. I am from Greece and I live and study in S. Korea. I have friends from many countries here. People from the US and some other native english countries seems to not understand europeans or koreans speaking english. For us the non native speakers it's easy to communicate and also we can understand easily different accents. Really interesting video by the way. ^_^

I found that this is completely true, because I experienced it myself as I am not a native english speaker. I spoke to many foreigners using english language and it seems that non-native english speaker could understand my english better than native english speaker.

Yeah, I've been always interested into this. But I think it's simple. When we, non-native speakers, learn English and when we hear someone else, even though his grammar, pronunciation or spelling are not correct, we know what he/she meant to say as we had the same problem or we understand the point. There's also example where in Croatian and Spanish there's same logic in grammar structure but totally different in English, so we'd probably miss the correct English but understand each other well.

（大変失礼なのですが）外人の話す日本語って、とても聞きずらい。なぜか。
何年も日本に住んでいても完全な日本語を話す人は誰もいない。間違っているところが際立って聞こえてきて「なんかよく分かんねーなー」と思っちゃう。言わないけど。
「こんなこと言いたいのかなー」と思って日本語で返事をしていますので相手の外人は僕に日本語が通じていると思っていると思いますがね。本当は違う。（日本人が一見流暢そうな英語をネイティブとしゃべっている人もいますが同じだと思いますよ。本当は）
これがノンネイティブ同士が簡易英語 グロービッシュを使って会話するとどうか。
お互い 間違いに気づかない (笑)
簡単な単語しか使わないからお互いが「こんなこと言いたいのかなー」と注意しながら聞いているので却ってお相手が何を言いたいのかが「妙に」分かる。
日本語には時制がありませんからね、現在形と過去形しかない、
お相手の国の言語も時制がなかったら
お互い、時制がめちゃくちゃでもお互い気にしない。
現在形でしゃべっていても yesterday が出てくれば昨日のことだって分かるじゃないですか。
ここで思い出したエピソード
外人と結婚した日本人の話。外人も日本語文法を本国で習って日本語を習い、日本人と結婚している。こういう日本語を使っちゃうんだって。
「私は明日、朝食を食べるだろう。」と。
日本人の配偶者は「明日、朝食を食べるよ」と日本語では言うんだよ、と説明しても理解してくれないと。
明日だから未来の事でしょう、だから未来形を使うべきだ、あなたの日本語は未来のことなのに現在形を使っている、と。
日本語には時制が現在形と過去形しかないんですよー、本当に。
英単語と外国語との間に意味のずれがあり、お互いのノンネイティブ同士、意味のずれの波長が合っちゃったりするからお互い、却って通じ合える。
これがネイティブに話すと自分の間違いがダイレクトに伝わり、「コノガイジン ナニイッテンノ」と思われるかもしれない。
少なくともオレの英会話のお相手はノンネイティブスピーカーなので、気楽に「英会話」に取り組んでいます。
