Flight instructor here, I've been hit by lasers 3 times now. I've been fortunate in that I happened to be looking away and was able to protect my eyes, but even that in itself is dangerous since I wasn't able to see outside or the instruments for that time. There's at least one airline pilot I know of who had his career ended by a laser strike which caused permanent eye damage. I hope anyone who sees this message will help educate people about how dangerous these things are.

People don't realise how dangerous a laser pointer can be, and not just for aircraft, we had a incident not so long ago of someone using a laser pointer to blind people driving on the freeway, this ass would stand on a overpass and point the laser at the windscreen of passing cars, he thought it was hilarious when the cars swerved all over the highway because the driver was blinded, at 120km/h plus a blinding light through a car's windshield can cause a fatal accident, the cops caught this guy and sent his ass to jail for 6 months, in my opinion this was attempted murder so 6 months was too little.
