Well done to your son, and congratulate him from me, as my daughter (17 years old) too, is multilingual (Russian, English, French, German, and Dutch) and it certainly has its uses.

My daughter was at a gym recently with a friend (English), and was on the cycling machine next to two Russian girls. My daughter was chatting while cycling to her friend in English, and the two Russian girls where discussing in Russian how fat my daughters friend was. At the end of my daughters session, she went up to the Russian girl, and in fluent Russian thank her for her comments on her friend.
The one girl actually fell of the cycle machine in astonishment.

Foreign languages have their uses!
