生徒のやる気はモチベーションの与え方次第
 
The only reason I hated learning languages as a schoolboy in Britain was that the teachers cast a negative attitude towards the usefulness of learning. 
 I was forced to do Latin & French, without being told how useful either was
 I scraped past the exams because without them I couldn't continue - I particularly hated the stupid question from the French oral examiner 'quelle temps fait il "?' (what is the weather ?) designed to trap the unwary - I looked at my watch, told the examiner that it was fine weather, and he asked me why I looked at my watch, and I told him that it was a wrist barometer, not a watch.  He failed me !  That was enough to prove how stupid the system was.
 
After getting a job, I quickly became fluent in French, then later in Italian, and now speak 7 languages well enough to get by in the respective countries, motivated by a desire to communicate with the local population while working there.  It is really great to make friends and be able to communicate with them - they are equally motivated to help when they see me trying to converse.
My daughter goes to school in Hungary,  in addition to Hungarian, she is fluent in English (passed a C&G exam to level C1 without any tuition), proficient in German,  and learning Italian, and loving it.
 
Given the proper motivation, British kids could readily learn at least one additional language

「おー、そうか。やるぞー。」と生徒が思うかどうか。
