The pavilion gave us an extra ordinal impression, partly because of the contrast between outside and inside space. The corridor to the garden provided the time for us to develop expectation in the complete darkness until we reach to the garden, which was utterly a heaven on earth.

"The concept for this year’s Pavilion is the hortus conclusus, a contemplative room, a garden within a garden. One enters the building from the lawn and begins the transition into the central garden, a place abstracted from the world of noise and traffic and the smells of London – an interior space within which to sit, to walk, to observe the flowers."

なんとも不思議な空間である。このベルギー館の展示は、7メートルのガルバナイズド・スティールの壁－あたかも建築の外壁のような－を設けることにより、エクステリアスペースがインテリアスペースとして機能する可能性＝Inversion（倒置）を示唆したものである。７ｍという外壁が知覚に訴えるものは、自分が建築の外部空間にいるのか、内部空間にいるのか、両者が同時に交錯するような奇妙な感覚であった。

床に散りばめられた紙片と、無造作に置かれた実体の薄い椅子たちが、「外と中」のインタラクションを強調し、「外にあるべきもの」と「内にあるべきもの」の既成概念を剥いでいくかのようである。床を埋め尽くす七色の紙片は、「アフター・ザ・パーティー＝祭りのあと」という賑やかさの余韻＝空虚さの暗喩であったのだろうか。


“The project is a tribute to the historical pavilion and puts it on show in its purest form as a monument, accessible from all sides, empty and stripped of all secondary additions. This is achieved by means of a seven-metre-high double-walled facade in galvanised steel which does not allow the visitor an initial view from the promenade. This architecture, which looks both solid and filigreed, provides the setting, like a new pavilion, for what is being exhibited, which is the architecture of the existing Belgian pavilion. Between the building and the added facades, the existing rooms and the new patio, there is an emphatic interaction between and inversion of the interior and exterior spaces. This impression is enhanced by the confetti scattered around the site and the randomly positioned chairs. “

Athens by Sound -From 11th Venezia Architecture Biennnale

このギリシャ館の展示もビエンナーレの全体テーマに対してひとつのユニークな解答を提示したものである。

ここでは、来館者が自身の体験により「音」によってアテネの街を再構築するというもので、会場には真っ暗な中に無数のヘッドホンが吊るされている。ビジターはこのヘッドホンの森の中で、音の断片とスクリーンに映されるヴィジュアル・シークエンスを頼りにイメージのなかでアテネの地図を描いていく。







ヴィジターは会場を歩きながら、自身のムーヴメントによってイメージを再構築していく。


"This walk in the pavilion, takes you 'out there', through invisible Athes. The pavilion actually brings forth the beyond-the-material, the beyond-the built, the almost unreachable, elusive aspects of space, such as sound, the non-visible senses, the atmosphere. It thus challenges the limits of architecture, the limits of what can be mapped and re-located and what cannot..."

「物質を超えた建築」を提唱するこのエクシビションは、フラグメンタルかつインタラクティヴな要素：音、目に見えない感覚、空気感によって建築を捕らえなおそうとする試みである。

これもまた、我々が自分自身を閉じ込めている既成概念を超えていくひとつの可能性を示唆してくれた展示であったと言えるのではないだろうか。
