It seemed a long time, although it was really only a few minutes, before the last pinwheel subsided. Anne, recovering herself, sprang to open doors and windows and let out the gas and smoke which filled the room.

recover oneself:立ち直る,冷静になる

最後の回転花火が燃え尽きるまで実際ほんの数分だったが、ひどく長く感じられた。我に返ったアンは椅子から急いで立ち上がると、ドアと窓を開け教室に充満している煙と臭いを外に出した。
