The day went by like a dream. Anne could never clearly recall it afterwards. It almost seemed as if it were not she who was teaching but somebody else. She heard classes and worked sums and set copies mechanically. The children behaved quite well; only two cases of discipline occurred.

その日は夢のように過ぎた。後から思い出そうとしてもアンははっきりと思い出すことはできない。自分ではない他の誰かが教えているように思えた。生徒の言うことを聞き、計算問題を解き、そして練習課題を整えたがすべて無意識だった。子どもたちは非常に行儀よくしていた；躾が必要となったのはわずかに2件。
