"I WON'T cry. It's silly--and weak--there's the third tear splashing down by my nose. There are more coming! I must think of something funny to stop them. But there's nothing funny except what is connected with Avonlea, and that only makes things worse--four--five--I'm going home next Friday, but that seems a hundred years away.

「私は泣かない。馬鹿げているし－－情けないわ－－鼻筋にそって涙の滴が落ちるのは3度目。もっと涙が出るわ！　泣かないように何か楽しいことを考えなくちゃ。でも楽しいことはアヴォンリーに関係したことばかり、それがまた悲しくなる－－4度目－－5度目－－この金曜日には家に帰るのよ、でも百年も先のことみたい。
