"Oh, Marilla," she exclaimed one Saturday morning,
coming dancing in with her arms full of gorgeous boughs,
"I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.
It would be terrible if we just skipped from September
to November, wouldn't it? Look at these maple branches.
Don't they give you a thrill--several thrills? I'm
going to decorate my room with them."

「マリラ！」土曜の朝、アンが腕一杯に見事な枝を抱え、
踊るように入ってきて声高く言った。「この世に10月があっ
て、そんな世界に住んでて嬉しい。10月を飛ばして9月から
11月に一気になったらひどいと思わない？　このメープルの
枝振りを見てよ。ぞくぞくしない？　一度っきりじゃないの、
何度も感動するの。私の部屋をこれで飾るわ」
