赤毛のアン15章13

Marilla had seen Anne start off to school on the first
day of September with many secret misgivings. Anne was
such an odd girl. How would she get on with the other
children? And how on earth would she ever manage to
hold her tongue during school hours?

Things went better than Marilla feared, however. Anne
came home that evening in high spirits.

start off:旅立つ
misgiving:不安
get on with:～と仲良くやっていく
on earth:一体(全体)
hold one's tongue:言いたいことを我慢する
in high spirits:上機嫌で

マリラは9月の第一日目を不安を抱えたままアンを学校へ送
り出した。他の子どもたちとうまくやっていくのだろうか？　
それにしても学校に行ってる間あの口を閉ざしておけるかど
うか？

しかしマリラが心配していたようなことはなかった。夕方に
なるとアンは上機嫌で帰ってきた。
