nice to be clever at something, isn't it? But Diana
named the Birch Path. She wanted to, so I let her;
but I'm sure I could have found something more poetical
than plain Birch Path. Anybody can think of a name
like that. But the Birch Path is one of the prettiest
places in the world, Marilla."

だからそこを紫の谷って名前を付けたの。場所にしゃれた
名前を付けることにかけてはアンにかなうものはいないわ
ねってダイアナに言われたわ。得意なものがあるっていい
でしょう。ダイアナは樺の道という名前を付けたの。そう
したかったのね、だからそうさせてあげたわ。私だったら
平凡な樺の道というよりもっと詩的な名前を付けることが
できたと思うけど。樺の道って誰でも思いつくことができ
るでしょう。それにしても樺の道は世界でも指折りの素敵
な場所ね、マリラ」
