It was a very long text. If I was a minister I'd pick
the short, snappy ones. The sermon was awfully long,
too. I suppose the minister had to match it to the
text. I didn't think he was a bit interesting. The
trouble with him seems to be that he hasn't enough
imagination. I didn't listen to him very much. I just
let my thoughts run and I thought of the most surprising
things."

テキストって長いわね。私が牧師だったら短くてかっこい
いテキストを選ぶけどな。お説教も恐ろしく長かったし。
牧師ならお説教とテキストは釣り合わせなくちゃいけない
と思うのよね。興味があるようにはちっとも見えなかった
もの。きっと想像力が足りないのが問題なんだわ。だから
牧師様の言うことを余り聞かずに、勝手に想像して、物す
ごく驚くようなことを考えてたの」
