did get through at last and they told me to
go into the classroom with Miss Rogerson's class.
There were nine other girls in it. They all
had puffed sleeves. I tried to imagine mine
were puffed, too, but I couldn't.

under one's breath:小さい声で
get through:終了する
puffed:膨らんだ

「あら、聞かれなかったわよ、小さな声で言ったから。
ようやくベルさんのお祈りが終わると、ロジャーソン先生
のクラスに行くよう言われたわ。女の子が9人いてね、み
んなバルーン袖なの。自分もそうだと想像しようとしたけ
どだめだった。
