「だけど、連れて来なかったんだよ。あの人が連れて来
たのはこの子だ。駅長には尋ねてみたよ。それに、間違
いがなんにしろ、この子をあそこに置いておくことはで
きなかったから、家に連れてきたんだ」

「やれやれ、とんでもないことになったわね」マリラは
大きな声で言った。
