She came out of her reverie with a deep sigh
and looked at him with the dreamy gaze of a
soul that had been wondering afar, star-led.

"Oh, Mr. Cuthbert," she whispered, "that
place we came through--that white place--what
was it?"

reverie:空想,夢想
deep sigh:深い溜息
gaze:凝視
wondering: wanderingのミス？
afar:遠くに
whisper:小声で言う

深いため息をついてアンは空想の世界から戻ってき
た。マシューを見る目は、心がはるか遠くの星をさ
まよってきたような夢を見ているまなざしだ。

ささやくように、「まあ、カスバートさん、今通っ
てきたところ、あの白い場所は何なの」と尋ねた。
