Jones helps catch thief hours before UFC 128 title match
Hours before the biggest match of his career, Ultimate Fighting Championship star Jon Jones was part of a win for the good guys on the streets of New Jersey.
Jones, 23, was heading to a waterfall in northern New Jersey to meditate Saturday afternoon prior to his showdown with UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua at the Prudential Center in Newark. As they arrived, Jones, along with coaches Greg Jackson and Mike Winklejohn, saw a man breaking into a car and attempting to flee the scene.
The man picked the wrong place at the wrong time.
"So while we were at the park today a crack head smashed this old lady's car window and took off running with her GPS just as we were pulling up," Jones wrote on his Twitter account.
"Right away ... Coach Wink goes after this guy. Without hesitation, Coach Jackson Michael Oher Jerseys
went after him ... I was shocked and stood there for a second. Then I threw my phone down and went with my coaches."
Though Jackson and Winklejohn had a head start, Jones was the first to track the suspect down.
"Before you know it, we're sprinting up a steep hill chasing after him. I turned the jets on ... we caught the guy," Jones said.
"We got the lady's GPS back. Our driver took a picture of Coach Jackson and I subduing the criminal.
"It feels so good to help others. It gives me power and energy ... I caught him ... Coach Jackson finished him."
According to Jones, the captain of the Patterson (NJ) police department called him later to thank them and "congratulate us on a job well done."
