At the news conference Sunday afternoon, state police Capt. Scott Crosier, Corning police Chief Sal Trentanelli and Steuben County District Attorney Brooks Baker discussed the first homicide in Steuben County this year.Lough suffered head trauma, but the authorities would not say if a weapon was used, Trooper Mark O'Donnell said, speaking for the state police. They also would not release a motive in the homicide, or say how the victim and suspects knew each other, O'Donnell said.Corning police went to the house around 6 p.m. Friday after receiving a report of an open door at the vacant Pine Street property. There was no electricity and no signs of anyone inside the house so police left, according to state police.

Officers returned Saturday to search the house during daylight. That's when they found Lough's body in the large kitchen cupboard, state police said.Corning police contacted state police to lead the investigation, troopers said. Investigators said they found evidence at the scene, but did not elaborate. That evidence led investigators to one of the two suspects, Crosier said at the news conference. That suspect led investigators to the second suspect, O'Donnell confirmed.
