There’s a running joke that queer people walk to the beat of house music on the streets. And it’s kind of true — queer people move through the world at a pace quick enough to protect themselves from dangerous eyes and hands. That focussed, precise 128bpm walk is a survival tactic. ‘Survival Groove’, a funky yet aloof cut from Octo Octa’s latest LP, struts at the same pace. Like its sister tracks, ‘Survival Groove’ is a sigil — a protection charm, conjuring energies not unlike the spell craft of their creator’s work behind the decks.
