A Letter of Gratitude to My Wife on Our 43rd Anniversary
I first met you over half a century ago in Los Angeles. Your image from back then is still vivid in my mind, as if it were only yesterday. When I compare myself—who’s put on quite a bit of weight—to you, who’s still kept nearly the same figure, I can’t help but admire you.
Even before we got married, I’d always dreamed of working in New York one day, so we chose Kyoto for our honeymoon. Around 41 years ago, I expressed my wish to transfer to New York for work. I never imagined that year would bring us both happiness and sorrow.
When my boss suggested that I return home to be by your side, I chose not to. Instead, I participated in company training. I still feel deeply sorry and regret my immature and thoughtless decision. Please forgive me.
My work at Reuters in New York was exciting and full of new discoveries every day. Needless to say, your bright and gentle smile was my greatest support.
1.Thank you for greeting me every morning with a cheerful "Good morning!" even when I was in a bad mood over work. It helped me more than you can imagine.
2.Thank you for still cherishing and wearing the clothes I gave you over 30 years ago.
3.Thank you for cooking delicious meals for us every day from the bottom of my heart.
As we move forward, it would be the greatest joy for me to spend our days together in good health, both physically and mentally.
To my lovely wife, Yumiko From Mike
