The overall dimensions and weight are near spot on compared to the iPad 3, yet it sports a larger widescreen format 10.1-inch screen. It is powered by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor clocking in at 1.5GHz and comes with 32GB or 64GB of storage. That storage is expandable via a microSD card slot as well, a feature we consider very important in modern mobile devices.
Dual-band Wireless-N, dual cameras (5MP rear, 2MP front), and external dock support are standard on the XPS 10. The keyboard dock looks like a very nice piece of kit, allowing you to attach a 92% full size keyboard with trackpad that creates a laptop-like clamshell chassis. The keyboard dock also has a built-in battery that will add a good 8 hours of runtime to the 10 hours you get with the tablet alone.
Not only is the Windows RT operating system very familiar with Windows users, but Microsoft is bundling Office Home & Student 2013 RT to give them a leg up over Apple and Android. This gives you the best MS Office experience on a mobile device, something that Microsoft is hoping will give it an edge when practical users like students and professionals look at a mobile device.
We’ve seen the occasional discount on this model, but it looks like Dell has dropped a permanent $150 off the price of the entry-level 32GB model. A soft touch case can be included for $30 more, but the one we’re most interested in adds the dockable keyboard for a total $449.
