Happy Halloween!

I don't usually do anything to celebrate Halloween, but this year as my brothers were having a party, I decided to go home for the weekend. I hadn't been back home since the summer holidays so it felt good to see my family again and to chill out for a few days. It always feels so relaxing to be back with my family, I sometimes wish I could go home more often but its pretty far to travel and recently I've been busy with work so I haven't had the time for it.

On Saturday we carved the pumpkin (when I say 'we' actually, my brother did all the work and I just drew the face shape on :p)

My brother and his girlfriend decorated the house ready for the party. I think the fake cobwebs look pretty cool. Since my brother is studying film-making at university, he has a lot of lighting and a smoke machine which helped make the house look more spooky.

I ate too much food again! I think I need to go on a diet again soon...

We made some pumpkin flavour cupcakes with spider-web style icing:

They also got some beer cups shaped like skulls which were pretty cool:

One of my brothers dressed as a creepy Alice-in-wonderland-esque Rabbit thing. He got some red contact lenses which looked pretty awesome. I was some kind of evil-fairy-thing (my costume is fairly useless, I'm afraid).

My other brother dressed as a pimp which was pretty funny. My brother's girlfriend in the middle is dressed as a zombie-schoolgirl....creepy.

Lots of my brothers' friends came and they all had good costumes, including a ghost, superman, rorschach from watchmen, austin powers and lots of other things. It was a fun night.

Today, I ate Sunday lunch with my mum and brothers then headed back to Cambridge ready for hospital tomorrow. Now its time for bed...night night

London trip

A couple of weekends ago I went to London to visit some friends who transferred to various London medical schools from Cambridge for clinicals. It was a really good to see them cos it had been way too long since we last all met up.

First we all went to Chinatown to get some lunch. The food was really delcious, so I ended up eating way too much!

We saw 'rabbit-shaped dumplings' on the menu which sounded interesting so, of course, we ordered some and they turned out to be very cute and also luckily tasted really good too (they actually turned out to have yam inside so no rabbits were harmed :p ). Food shaped like animals is certainly the way forward.

Once we were all full of delicious food we headed for the Tate Modern. On the way we walked past St. Paul's Cathedral which I've never been up close to before, so it was nice to see it. There seemed to be a wedding on there, as we saw the bride and groom on the steps at the front. Quite an impressive setting to get married in!

I hadn't been to the Tate Modern before so it was interesting to go for the first time. Like most the London galleries/museums it's massive so we only had time to look at a few sections. I'd like to head back sometime and see a bit more.

After the gallery we went for some coffee then headed home to Cambridge. It was a really awesome day and it was nice to see everyone

Portugal

Recently I had 3 weeks summer holiday so I spent one week in Portugal with my family. I hadn't ever been to Portugal before so it was exciting to visit a new place. The holiday was absolutely amazing! Here's some of the photos from the holiday.

We rented a villa in the Algarve region on the south coast. The villa was very beautiful and had a lovely swimming pool in the garden so we could go swimming every day. The weather was really warm so it was good to have the pool to cool down in

This is Mr. Krokodil, the inflatable crocodile. Mr. Krokodil also likes swimming.

The food and drink in Portugal was really delcious. We went to a town called Portimão which has many sardine restaurants and ate some lovely fish. The sardines were so tasty :)

There was also an Italian restaurant next to the villa which served some of the best food I've ever tasted. It really was amazing and the service was very good too.

The scenery along the coast was really beautiful. There were several nice beaches nearby (although some were pretty busy because it was the middle of summer) and also some interesting rock formations. We also went to a water park called Aquashow which was really fun, it had loads of cool rides and slides.

I want to go back to Portugal again
