Use of ICT makes schools different

Today, I attended a joint information session of senior high schools in this region. 22 schools from both public and private, gathered at a public hall to introduce them to students from junior high school, who begun to think which HS to enroll.

I could have talks with teachers of 2 public schools and 2 private schools and had to admit that there was a huge gap between them around ICT.

ICT is abbreviation of “Information and Communication Technology” and it came to a spotlight since last spring. Those days, we had the declaration of a state of emergency first time and schools in entire Japan had to close for 2 – 3 months all at once.

As is obvious, schedule of curriculum got confused everywhere and the situation raised a controversy on current school system.  Many experts of education, suggested to use ICT for remote lesson and it was granted in universities lectures. But in JHS and SHS were not able to cope with the idea because number of children was too many to support with.

Now I can see their attitudes to confront to the risk caused by COVID-19. While, public school has almost no idea about using ICT but private school seriously considers to take technology in the school life. I am sure that private schools gained non-negligible advantage to public schools.
