Yesterday, Kotoshogiku (琴奨菊) won first time in Grand sumo championship. It was the also first time in a decade for Japan born sumo wrestler to win the championship. For last 10 years, GSC has been dominated by oversea origin sumo wrestlers.
Mostly, they were Mongolians. Asashoryu (朝青龍) 10 times, Hakuho (白鳳) 35 times and others 13 times altogether. They were energetic, aggressive and talented in sumo style wrestling. It seemed that they had everything what Japanese sumo wrestler forgot long time ago.
In the interview for winner, Kotoshogiku told us that he experienced a long tunnel both in mentally and physically. During the difficult days he trained himself well and it raised him up when his time has come.
Maybe I should learn his sincere attitude toward one’s profession.
