  • We designed SimaPro to be a science-based information source that provides full transparency and avoids black box processes. You can make conscious decisions throughout the analytical process to ensure the accuracy of your results.
  • SimaPro library nomenclature is consistent: We updated the library names in SimaPro to match the library names provided by ecoinvent. Allocation default libraries are now called Allocations at Point of Replacement (APOS), and recycled content libraries are now called Allocations, by category cutoff.
  • New and updated: SimaPro 8.5 includes the latest version of the ecoinvent database. The main highlights of Ecoinvent 3.4 include a major update and expansion of the electricity market portfolio. In addition, new electricity production datasets and markets for 29 states and 5 grids in India have been introduced. Other highlights include updated datasets for not only natural gas, but also chemicals and PE and PET recycling.
  • Agri-footprint includes U.S. data: The update to Agri-footprint includes data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), which hosts a repository of life cycle assessment (LCA) data called LCA Commons. In total, data on production processes for approximately 250 U.S. field crops have been added to Agri-footprint, such as cottonseed and lint, peanuts, corn, oats, rice, soybeans, and winter, spring, and durum wheat.
  • Plastics Europe, World Steel and Surfactant Production: In addition to updating several processes in Plastics Europe, we are pleased to introduce data from two new sources in the SimaPro industry database. First, we implemented 46 datasets provided by World Steel across 4 regions. We also added a database developed by the European Environmental and Health – Risk Assessment and Management (ERASM) scientific research partners for the Detergents and Surfactants Industry under the SLE project. This database includes 37 LCI datasets (system level) for the production of surfactants and their main precursors.
  • ELCD ensures data quality: According to the JRC, the focus of the latest ELCD is data quality, consistency and fitness for purpose. Many existing processes have been reviewed against the ILCD entry-level data quality requirements in order to provide quality-assured LCI data.
  • In this release, 500 processes have been updated to the latest dataset. For each process, all metadata information is included in a general comment.
