新型コロナウイルス感染症の有力な治療薬候補である抗インフルエンザ薬「アビガン」の増産に向けた態勢整備が進んでいる。長い年月を要する新薬に比べ、既存のアビガンへの期待は大きい。エボラ出血熱など他の疾患治療を目的に開発された既存薬を対象に、新型コロナへの有効性を探る取り組みが国内外で広がっている。

　アビガンは富士フイルム富山化学（東京）が開発。２０１４年に国から承認を受けた新型インフル薬には、コロナウイルスの増殖抑制効果が期待されている。有効性を確認する臨床試験（治験）が始まり、年内にも承認されて広く投与される可能性がある。胎児に奇形が生じる副作用から妊婦らは服用できない。

米食品医薬品局（FDA）は24日、新型コロナウイルス感染症治療の候補薬とされ、トランプ大統領が勧めている抗マラリア薬について、新型コロナ感染者への投与で心臓に異常が起きる深刻な副作用が報告されていると注意喚起する文書を公表した。死亡例もあるという。

　対象の薬はクロロキンとヒドロキシクロロキン。投与された感染者に、頻脈や心室細動の副作用がみられるため、臨床試験か、医師が経過を観察できる病院のみで服用するよう呼び掛けている。また、抗生物質のアジスロマイシンと併用すると心臓に異常が起きる危険性が増す恐れがあるとしている。
