私は算数派!

Math or English, you ask!? Why does Amoeba always ask in either/or question, in which my favorite answer is NOT present at all!! I guess I can't just say, I didn't like neither, but really, who in the hell loves to study anyways?! Not me, sir!

But if I had to choose, I guess I have to say I was more of a math wiz, though, at young age such as grade schoolers, the liking of a subject is deeply affected by how they were taught. If the kids loved the way the teachers were teaching, then they were more than likely to say that they liked that particular subject; Not so clear cut lines in whether they really like the subject or just the way of teachings that they enjoyed. In any case, I think it would be fair to say I liked Math more than English course, because I really hated the way my teacher nitpicked at my grammar all the time in class. (Okay, I know that's how the grammar course is supposed to be like... But hey, that's exactly my point, who in the right mind can like such an anal course as grammar lessons, unless you have it in you?!) As early as a grade schooler, I had my own rationale and I was very stubborn to stick to my own philosophy. I made a point in saying the Raison d'etre of the language is to communicate with one another, and in that sense, grammar mistakes are usually very minor thing to interfere with its purpose. I read what I had written for my essay on the book "Lord of The Flies" in my class. The classmates wowed and the teacher understood clearly of what I was saying, and she even told me that I have thought out the essay well. She also complimented on how well my essay was organized so easy to follow, that it sounded very convincing... However, her sentences have never ended with just the compliments, she always had to add her "buts" about my grammar. Anyways, At one point I got very irritated by her usual nitpicking ways, that I told her the existence of the language is to communicate to which she agreed. So, once she said that she clearly understood what I'm saying, then indeed, I have accomplished in what I'm supposed to do with essays. My thoughts and reasonings were expressed in the essay, and its recipients clearly received them. It was written understandable enough to get responses from audiences. Of course, it was just a quibbling of a stubborn grade schooler, but my teacher who had already agreed the meaning of the language was to communicate, had no come back to that.

What I hate the most is, rechecking of my own work, which is the key to succeed in grammar courses. I hated the process of the first draft, second draft, and proofreading in between and at the end. I had already expressed my thought process, so in my mind, right after the first draft, I'm usually ready to put Q.E.D: case closed! The proofreading process was like a solving a puzzle ring that you have already solved once. I mean, once you learn how to solve one of these, it's not that fun to just solve it over and over. I would have more fun trying to solve a new one, wouldn't you?

On the other hand, math is very simple, once you solved them, you are done, Q.E.D, the End, period! Sure, calculations require double checks on them, but it's fairly simple and you would know instantly even before the double check processes, whether your answer is correct or not. The proofreading for math never requires that much nitpicking skills, I think. I mean, plug in your answer, make sure your answer works and viola, you've finished checking! Besides, all they require is some equations to show the thought process and some commentaries to explain it, a lil more with details, and Done. I didn't have to worry too much about spellings or any other of those "minor" issues, because in mathematics, misspelling isn't that crucial, as long as you calculate things right!

Even today, I have hard time understanding the people who loves Language course more than mathematics. I mean, why would they even want to put themselves in the tortures of boring, yet very aggravating grammar lessons?! Are they crazy or what?! (LOL)
