ブログネタ:昔、劇でやったタイトルは? 参加中Oh gosh! I was involved with acting, when I was young. The one thing I should be thankful to my mother, would be that she had taken me to a lot of plays, which made me realize that I was really into the theatrical plays.
Not counting the one that I played during in my pre-school era, the first play I have played in a children's theatrical company was the Greek Mythology of the King Midas. I played King Midas. It was sort of like a tryout play and there were other kids, who had been used to playing in the company, but when a director asked who want to play "King Midas", mine was the only hand that shot up. I remember raising my hand, but if I look back now, I'm just amazed of confidence that I had in myself. Although, no one else wanted that role as the King Midas, the director gave several of older kids to audition against me. For whatever the reason may be, I never got nervous at all in those stage settings, back then. I quickly skimmed through the script and just acted as all my heart contented. I still remember one of my line from the play. "No matter what, anyone says Pan is the winner!!" I think it was the first line of the role.
After the King Midas, I got the part of Tom Sawyer for the play based on the Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. A very classic role for a kid, I would say. I think we did the part, where the Tom ended up having to paint the house, but he got away from working all day, by making the choir looking like a trendy thing to do. I don't remember any lines from that particular play, but I have enjoyed being Tom. I think there were a bit of fighting scene, where the other kid sarcastically offers his two cents and I would go knock it off from his hand. Since, the other kid was bigger & older, he was nice to show me how to make the fighting scene realistic and he allowed me to really "knock it off" from his hand. I could act being "beaten up", but I didn't quite grasp how not to put full force for "punching" scene, yet appearing like so. The older kid was nice enough to put up with my practices, even tho sometimes I have missed the timing to pull out my force and ended up punching him for real.
I have played the Monkey, Sūn Wùkōng in the Journey to the West. I have always loved this great classic from Chinese literature. I really enjoy doing the stage combat of that play, tho the scenes required a lot of practice hours to be safe.
I hated to take part of narrators, but to learn the proper ways of elocution and voice acting, I read the story of Choo-Choo live on the stage. At first, I struggled of not being allowed to express by body motions. Acting with voice alone was a very baffling task, it's like a butterfly trying to fly with only one wing. But learning the need of putting more emotion into each lines, helped me out roles I played, later on.
I did many other plays, but I always had a nag for musical. I played Winthrop Paroo in the Music Man. After learning to speak the "proper & clear", it was at first difficult to "lisp". I didn't think I could get a role that has a name in the Musical, since I wasn't good at singing, so I was presently surprised to get this role. It was tough after doing this role, to "get off" the habit of lisping again back to proper speech.
With many other plays I have done, with different acting styles, the line that I still remember to this day is the very first line of the King Midas. As a role, I liked other roles that I have played during the course, but that tryout sort of act had led me to other roles, so to me that is the role that I remember the most.
