ブログネタ:賞味期限、どれくらい気にする? 参加中I don't drink milk, because I have lactose intolerance. At times, I would get soy milk or other products, but I don't really care for the milk as much. So, it's one less thing to worry about the expiration date, I suppose. I always tried to care about the dates on eggs, but at time and again, I found my eggs went bad, because I have forgotten to use them to the extent that the egg shell becoming very thin and flabby. (Ewwww) Don't ask how long ago I have bought that, cuz I wouldn't know!
Some how, refrigerators are mysterious boxes. At times, you can't find the thing you want to use, and when you are not looking, somehow, you'll find it right there in the front, with of course way passed its expiration date!!
For the most of the dressings and other seasonings, I don't really care about the expiration dates, especially if they are vinegar-based. Ketchups, mustard, various hot sauces, I go through them so quick, so I don't have to worry about checking those expiration dates on those. But there are a couple of dressings I bother to check their expiration dates. Those are the Ranch dressing and the Tartar sauce, because I had bad encounter with stale tartar sauce and ranch dressings before. For the tartar sauce, it looked okay... I mean, there were green stuffs, but I thought those were the pickles and not the molds that decided to reside in jar of my tartar sauce! For the ranch dressing, I didn't even look but shook the bottle, so with its own white creamy liquid, I couldn't see how bad it had gone. Oh yeah, I had to spend a night in the bathroom afterward.
Another thing that I forget that I even had is a butter. To begin with, I rarely use butter in my cooking. Then, of course, non-see through lid on the butter section inside the door of my fridge, doesn't help at all. I keep forgetting to lift it up to see whether if I have a butter or not, when I open refrigerator. After I sit back down to couch or something, I'll always think that I'll check the next time I open up fridge. The result of that sort of procrastination is the 5 yo butter... I didn't even bother to check the expiration dates, cuz the stick had refrigerator smell... YUCK!
I wonder, with all the technologies, if anyone would come up with a refrigerator, that would push up the ones that are getting close to their expiration dates, right in front automatically, in a affordable price. Actually, I know we already have the means to just build them, but it would be a whole different story to make them affordable by regular household.
