Population of Japan
In 2050, the population of Japanese people fell below 50 million. Of the 50 million, over 90% are aged 60 and above. The birth rate has dropped to between 1.0 and 0.5, and the number of young Japanese people has drastically decreased.
However, the population within Japan remains at 100 million. This is because many foreign nationals who have moved to Japan are residing in the country.
These foreign nationals include Chinese, Koreans, Southeast Asians, people from Middle Eastern countries, and others. In Japanese schools, Chinese, Korean, and English are taught in classes. Japanese can be learned as an elective subject.
On television broadcasts, Japanese appears as subtitles, and the participants are often Chinese. With a smartphone, subtitles can be simultaneously translated into various languages worldwide, so there is no inconvenience.
Signboards in Japan are commonly displayed in multiple languages, and Japanese is no longer the standard. Many bus and train drivers are Chinese or Korean, and convenience stores often have Iranian or Pakistani staff.
This phenomenon is attributed to the legal reforms in 2025. In 2025, Japan's labor force decreased due to the declining birth rate and aging population, and the number of young workers drastically decreased, prompting a shift in policy to accept more foreign workers.
Immigration regulations were significantly relaxed, work visas became valid for 10 years, and foreigners could gain residency rights by reapplying after 10 years.
In China, the domestic economic downturn led many Chinese to seek jobs in Japan. Many of them did not return after 10 years and reapplied to stay in Japan.
Foreigners needed to have graduated from a university to obtain work visas. However, since Chinese graduates could not find jobs within China, many flocked to Japan.
Most Japanese companies employed a majority of foreign workers, and Japanese technology flowed to Chinese and Korean companies.
Until 2035, the influx of foreign workers helped mitigate the declining birth rate and aging population, stabilizing the Japanese economy. However, gradually, the number of Chinese nationals surpassed that of Japanese, and Japanese was replaced by Chinese.
In government offices, more than 50% of the employees were Chinese, and in the political world, the Liberal Democratic Party lost, and the Japanese Communist Party gained power. 80% of the Japanese Communist Party's members were Chinese, and politics became heavily influenced by China.
In 2050, the pension law was revised to allow Chinese nationals to receive pensions. Over 90% of Japanese were aged 60 and above, leading to significant cuts in Japanese pensions.
Japan was renamed the New People's Republic of China in 2050.
By 2100, the proportion of pure Japanese people was reduced to a few percent. Most of the population consisted of mixed-race individuals from China, Korea, and other countries.
The traditional Japanese culture of hospitality, kindness, and good manners collapsed, urban and tourist areas became littered with trash, and drugs, prostitution, robbery, and murder became commonplace.
Then, as if to wash away that nightmare, the Nankai Trough Earthquake occurred, and Japan sank to the bottom of the sea.
