According to the UN news today,
it is said said
TB is on the increase by an alrming pase in African continent,
where most TB patients are also suffering from HIV/AIDS.
In 6 regions in of the world,
Africa is the only place where 5000 people are dying due to the TB everyday.
Africa Americas, Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia Western Pacific Africa due to the TB/HIV co-epidemic, Europe includes countries of the former Soviet Union.
Despite the UN commitment for the prevention and treatment of the disease, as shwon by the Millenium Development Goals,
the continent has 3-4% increase rate of TB. annually
Former Soviet-Union could not stop its increase rate either.
Though the problem is much more serious in Africa.
The report said "As told by Nelson Mandela,
Africa needs more support for combating co-epidemic in the continent,
that is HIV and TB."
we can’t fight AIDS unless we do much more to fight TB
TB is now curable and DOTS is the key. However,
still many people can not acceess to the DOTS to cure their TB.
DOTS= DOTS, the internationally recommended strategy to control TB, combines five elements: political commitment, microscopy services, drug supplies, surveillance and monitoring systems, and the use of highly efficacious treatment regimes with direct observation of treatment.
